Couple of months prior to the abolition of border checks which - on the contrary to the land borders - will affect the international airports at the end of March 2007, the biggest airport of the Czech Republic is introducing a few changes. While doing so, the Prague Airport responds to the approaching enlargement of the Schengen area by the Czech Republic and eight other EU Member States.

Already on 28 October 2007, flights to/from countries which are due to becoming members of the Schengen area at the end of this year move from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2. As from 28 October, Terminal 2 will thus handle all flights from/to countries of the current as well as future Schengen area comprising of:

current Schengen countries: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain and Sweden

countries joining Schengen at the end of 2007: Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia

Changes in handling of flights will not affect local flights within the Czech Republic which will continue to be handled at Terminal 1 and which will move to Terminal 2 once the border checks are abolished at Terminal 2, thus at the end of March 2008.

Border checks - meaning presentation of travel documents to police officers of the Czech Republic - will remain at the "Schengen" Terminal 2 until the day of abolition of border checks at the so called air borders of the enlarged Schengen area - until the end of March 2008.

Simultaneously with flight transfers, the names of terminals of the Prague Airport are being changed and simplified. The current name North 1 Terminal changes into Terminal 1 and North 2 Terminal becomes Terminal 2. The change in the name affects also the terminal designated for private flights: South 2 Terminal changes into Terminal 3.

With regards to these changes, the Prague Airport has launched the information campaign Departure Terminal Change with the aim to facilitate the orientation of passengers at the airport.
